SLO Jazz Festival Presents “Blame It On the Bossa Nova”, A Brazilian Festa!

SAN LUIS OBISPO, CA: The SLO Jazz Festival is bringing the Brazilian beat to town with “Blame It On The Bossa Nova” which will take place at the SLO Courtyard by Marriott on Saturday, November 14, 2015, 6:00pm – 10:00pm. Following its second annual all-day festival at Mission Plaza, SLO Jazz Festival is ramping up for its 2016 festival with a special night of food, beverages and music all themed around Brazilian music, featuring numerous visiting renowned musicians as well as favorite local performers. After a previous sold out performance in SLO, Téka, the reigning queen of Brazilian music in Southern California, is returning to headline this all-star bossa nova night. Joining Téka are Mike Shapiro, former drummer for Sergio Mendes; Randy Tico, bassist for Jeff Bridges and Thomas Zink, former keyboardist for Chaka Khan and Randy Brecker. Kicking off the evening’s entertainment will be SLO’s own Black Market Trio featuring saxophonist Scott Andrews, also the Founder and Executive Director of SLO Jazz Festival, bassist Joe Duran, and percussionist Sean Sullivan. The Trio will be joined by SLO favorites Darrell Voss on vibraphone/percussion and Talia Ortega on flute. Dancing is encouraged.
Consistent with the bossa nova beat will be a variety of Brazilian hors d’oeuvres and appetizers, including a ceviche bar, specially catered by Popolo Catering. Appropriately accompanying this fare will be sangria, caipirinha and wines from Le Vigne Winery and Cass Vineyard and Winery. The evening also features both live and silent auctions, offering tempting items such as tropical vacations as well as experiences in New York, New Orleans and more. Adding to the fun and excitement of the evening, prizes will be awarded for those who arrive in the best costume among specific categories. Individual and group table tickets are available. Please visit our website for more information and to purchase tickets.
SLO Jazz Festival is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Proceeds from the evening will benefit the SLO Jazz Festival’s general fund and its jazz education fund. In addition, one live auction item will benefit Along Comes Hope, a local 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization helping families of children with cancer.
