SANTA BARBARA – The next phase of construction on the US Highway 101/Castillo Street Pavers Project will result in a traffic switch on Castillo Street
on Tuesday night, Sept. 8. Motorists can expect to encounter the following ramp closures.
The southbound US Highway 101 on-ramp at Castillo Street will be closed beginning Tuesday night, Sept. 8 at 9 pm until Wednesday morning, Sept. 9 at 6 am.
The southbound US Highway 101 off-ramp at Castillo Street will be closed beginning Tuesday night, Sept. 8 at 9 pm and remain closed for four weeks.
Motorists headed west on Castillo Street will be unable to make a left hand turn onto southbound US Highway 101 in order to reduce congestion for motorists headed eastbound.
This traffic switch will result in motorists driving over the new pavers while installation continues on the unfinished areas of Castillo Street.
This project will improve the pavement where seeping groundwater has damaged the existing concrete pavement, resulting in potholes and a wet driving surface.
These pavers will allow the groundwater to drain while providing a smooth driving surface for motorists and bicyclists.
The contractor for this $873,000 project is Peterson Chase Construction of Irvine, CA. It is expected to be completed in September.
All businesses will remain open during this project.
Caltrans reminds motorists to move over and slow down when driving through highway construction zones.
