SANTA BARBARA, September 10, 2015: L.E.O.N.(Latino Elders Outreach Network) extended a cordial invitation to people 60 and older to the second annual “Dia De Los Abuelos” (Day of the Grandparents).
This event, which is entirely free, was held on Thursday September 10, from 11 am to 1 pm at the Carrillo Recreation Center, located at 100 E. Carrillo St Santa Barbara. Those who were in attendance enjoyed a lunch catered by Community Action Commission’s Back Door Deli, raffle prizes and live performance by a traditional mariachi band.
LEON is a group of individuals with a commitment to meet once a month to coordinate efforts on behalf of the Elderly of the Latino community. LEON operates with the help of Adult and Aging Network, part of the consultative body of the Board of Supervisors of Santa Barbara County.
LEON operates as an information center, collecting data and taking the most effective ways to meet the needs of the Aging of America Community. Our main goal is to engage and empower the Latino community, educating the public about the needs of the elderly and of the resources available to them in the community.
LEON members are representatives of the public and private sectors, along with the participation of non-profit agencies.
