Lompoc Library Receives $15,500 From Turducken Dinner Group

Lompoc Library System Gifted $15,500 By The Turducken Dinner Group
Funds will be used to enhance the main library’s back patio and children’s area
LOMPOC, CA, Aug. 1, 2016 – The Lompoc Public Library System has been gifted $15,500 in
donations from the Turducken Dinner Group that will be used to enhance the main library’s back
patio and children’s area.
The Turducken Dinner Group raised $10,000 of the total donation at its annual Speakeasy
Dinner and Dance, which was held last November, and $5,500 as part of the group’s first Spirit
of Generosity award.
The Turducken Dinner Group originally formed in 2003 with the purpose of raising funds to
support the Lompoc, Vandenberg Village and Buellton libraries. A group of community
members, including current Lompoc Mayor Bob Lingl and Councilmember DeWayne Holmdahl,
held a fundraising dinner in which turducken was the main course, and an annual tradition was
The Spirit of Generosity award was gifted in honor of longtime Lompoc community volunteer Al
Walker, who died in 2012. Walker’s friends, who nominated him for the award, asked that the
funds donated in his name be used to improve the main library patio area. A plaque with
Walker’s name will be placed on the patio in his memory.
The $10,000 donation will also be used in part on the patio improvement project, along with
enhancing the children’s area at the Lompoc library and other projects as needed.
Lompoc Library Director Sarah Bleyl said the library has benefitted in countless ways over the
years from the Turducken Dinner Group’s generosity.
“We are thankful for the Turducken Dinner Group’s commitment to literacy and our community.
Because of their generosity, we are able to provide the latest and best library resources and
technology to our visitors in a comfortable, inviting environment,” Bleyl added.
