Ojai Film Festival

August 15, 2016 – Ojai, California … Ojai artist Shahastra will provide the cover art of the 2016 Ojai Film Festival program guide. The cover features Shahastra’s beautiful landscape Three Guardians, a pastel that depicts three palm trees set against a backdrop of majestic mountains and lush lemon groves.“>

According to Ojai Film Festival executive director Maryse Gartner, Shahastra’s aesthetic is perfect for conveying the natural beauty of the Ojai Valley. “We wanted a Film Festival cover that would illustrate Ojai’s small-town charm and spectacular landscapes. With her use of vibrant color and light, Shahastra is the perfect choice to provide the cover for the festival’s 2016 program guide.”

Shahastra has a long and distinguished career as a multimedia artist, teacher, and illustrator and is a member of Ojai Studio Artists, a foundation dedicated to promoting art awareness. In the 1980s, Shahastra founded an alternative school in the Ojai Valley and currently teaches art publicly and privately. As an artist, Shahastra designs handmade sterling jewelry, paints, and sculpts in a variety of media. Shahastra illustrated the Magical Rainbow series of children’s books, contributed to the experiential Ojai art installation “The Walk,” and published a fifty-card reflection deck entitled “Meeting the Self.”
