Charlotte’s Web Children’s Bookmobile Embarks on Summer Tour
Mobile Children’s Library will be making stops across the City of Lompoc all summer long
LOMPOC, CA, June 24, 2016 – The City of Lompoc’s new Charlotte’s Web bookmobile has begun weaving its web of fun, with stops scheduled throughout the City all summer long. The Mobile Children’s Library is available for additional visits by request.
The bookmobile, named for longtime Lompoc civic leader and entrepreneur Charlotte Benton, is a green energy-fueled children’s library on wheels that is available by request for free-of-charge visits.
Benton, Lompoc’s first woman mayor and a lifelong reader, gave her property at 211 South I St. to the City in 1997 for a children’s library project. One of the largest donations ever made to the City of Lompoc, her gift included funds in trust for the operation of the children’s library.
The Mobile Children’s Library was designed, based on Benton’s vision, and opened in March of this year. The bookmobile has stops scheduled at summer camps, festivals and other events this summer.
