15th Annual Fund-Raising Tournament Slated for August 22
July 20, 2016—Santa Barbara, CA On Monday, August 22, 2016, St. Vincent’s Santa Barbara will host its 15th Annual Golf Classic at La Cumbre Country Club. Assisting more than 600 low-income children, families and seniors each day, from its 21-acre campus, St. Vincent’s is the largest affordable housing complex in Southern California, and Santa Barbara’s longest, continually operating nonprofit agency.
“The Golf Classic supports three life-changing programs throughout the year, and directly impacts the lives of our residents and clients,” said Sister Margaret Keaveney, DC, Chief Executive Officer of St. Vincent’s. “Each of these unique programs fills a void for our brothers and sisters in need in this community.”
· St. Vincent’s FAMILY STRENGTHENING PROGRAM is a two-year, life-transforming, communal living program for low-income single or pregnant mothers and their children. It provides a safe and loving environment, and access to the life-skills necessary for raising a strong, healthy family.
· The EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION CENTER at St. Vincent’s is a fully licensed, NAEYC-accredited preschool offering high quality, affordable education and care for children ages six weeks to kindergarten. Supported in part by the annual Golf Classic, scholarships are often available for families with limited means.
· The AFFORDABLE HOUSING PROGRAMS include St. Vincent’s Gardens, a comprehensive, 75-unit development that provides low- and very low-income families with essential amenities for developing strong families and communities; Villa Caridad provides 95 units of senior housing with a community center, commercial kitchen, outdoor seating, and walking paths throughout the campus.
Generously funded in part by PRESENTATION SPONSOR Sally Valpredo, the 18-hole Texas Scramble features hole-in-one contests and prizes on five different holes, and overall prizes that include a 2016 BMW 320i (courtesy of Santa Barbara Auto Group), golf apparel and vacation packages. St. Vincent’s is also honored and pleased to welcome back KEYT News Channel 3 Meteorologist Meredith Garofalo as the event emcee.
“Support from the Valpredo family has been crucial to the continued success of the Golf Classic,” said Keaveney. “We are so appreciative of their help to the families and children who need St. Vincent’s here in Santa Barbara.” Additional major sponsors include the Sattler Beneficial Trust and Joe’s Café.
St. Vincent’s is dedicated to strengthening low-income families and seniors through programs rooted in the social teachings of the Catholic Church. Originally established as an orphanage and English-speaking school in 1858, St. Vincent’s is the longest, continually operating nonprofit agency in Santa Barbara County. Its mission remains faithful to the charism of the Daughters of Charity of St. Vincent de Paul, and today provides affordable housing, early childhood education, and family enrichment opportunities.
