Summer of Savings Initiative Gives Families the Opportunity to Learn About Savings and Global Health
Santa Barbara, CA – Locally based charity, Vitamin Angels announced today that it will launch its first-ever Summer of Savings initiative on June 20th. The summer-long program encourages families to come together to save and raise funds to support Vitamin Angels and help children suffering from malnutrition around the world. Throughout the summer participants will learn that even simple actions can help other children just like them. When summer is over, kids can return to school knowing they’ve used their time off to make a meaningful impact – and be recognized by Vitamin Angels for their efforts.
“The importance of helping others in need, and the value of money, are both incredible life lessons for parents to share with their children,” said Howard Schiffer, president and founder of Vitamin Angels. “Summer of Savings is a great way to introduce these concepts in fun and educational way, while helping kids connect to their peers around the globe.”
For parents looking for a way to keep their children engaged during the summer break, Summer of Savings offers the opportunity to teach children about health and nutrition, money management, and geography, among other subjects. Children can choose to focus their fundraising efforts on children like Mutesi in Uganda, Jonathan in Panama, and Rimpa in India.
These children have all received vitamins from Vitamins Angels, protecting against malnutrition, the #1 cause of preventable child death globally. Vitamin Angels’ cost to reach one child with lifesaving vitamins for an entire year is just $0.25. This small sum is accessible to children of all ages and allows everyone to feel they can make a meaningful impact on the health of a child in need – just $5 will help Vitamin Angels reach 20 children!
For Santa Barbara residents, the Summer of Savings initiative will culminate in a community celebration in Alameda Park on Saturday, August 20. The event, which will feature family-friendly activities and games, will be open to the public, and honor those children who fundraised.
