Convivo is the newest restaurant to be opened by iconic restaurateur Larry Mindel and Chef Peter McNee. McNee was Executive Chef at Mindel’s Sausalito restaurant, Poggio Trattoria, where they formed a lasting friendship and partnership. Chef McNee was Mindel’s one and only choice to helm the kitchen at Convivo. Mindel, the founder of Il Fornaio restaurants, opened an Il Fornaio some 20 years ago with the owner of the Santa Barbara Inn, Richard Gunner. The three now collaborate to open Convivo.
Restaurateur Larry Mindel and Chef Peter McNee are teaming to open Convivo, a restaurant and bar featuring “Nomad Italian” cuisine, located directly across from East Beach and the Pacific Ocean, on the ground floor of the historic Santa Barbara Inn. Convivo, whose name means ‘to come together’ and is the root word for the Latin term for ‘feast,’ will serve dinner, lunch and breakfast seven days a week, and brunch on weekends. The lunch and dinner menu features cicchetti (small plates served in bite size portions), fresh from the farm agricola salads and appetizers, housemade pasta, wood-fired pizza and Santa Barbara’s bounty of seafood and meats roasted over a wood fire. Many menu items will be served family-style and everything can be shared. A full bar featuring craft cocktails and local brewers will anchor the 62-seat restaurant. An extensive wine list, including tap wines, will draw primarily from Santa Barbara County’s AVAs. An expansive outdoor patio offers al fresco dining with views of the Santa Barbara Harbor and Channel Islands beyond, in addition to a fire pit with special seating to enjoy the sunset. Convivo will also cater all special events at the hotel, including their 80-seat Montecito Room. Visit www.convivorestaurant.com.
