Belmond El Encanto Appoints Johan Denizot as Executive Chef

LOS ANGELES (May 2, 2016) — Santa Barbara’s only Forbes Five Star resort for the third consecutive year, Belmond El Encanto, is pleased to announce the appointment of Johan Denizot as Executive Chef. Joining the resort from Bacara Resort & Spa in the nearby city of Goleta, Denizot is dedicated to leading the food and beverage efforts of this picturesque coastal resort. Situated on seven acres of lush gardens with sweeping ocean views, Belmond El Encanto is known for its California coastal cuisine, highlighting the local bounty of the resort’s surroundings, and expertly prepared at The Dining Room and Terrace.

French born, raised, and trained, Denizot garnered nearly a decade of culinary experience before beginning his successful career in the United States, where he launched the pastry and bakery program at Annabelle’s Bar & Bistro in San Francisco. Denizot went on to implement creative menus and elevate the overall level of cuisine and plate presentation at Alisal Guest Ranch’s Root 246, and most recently Miro at Bacara Resort & Spa, where he was instrumental in the restaurant earning its Forbes Four-Star rating. Fluent in French, English, and Spanish, Denizot received his Certificate of Professional Studies in the Culinary Fields at the Restaurant Formation School in Pontarlier, France, and then continued on to receive his Certificate of Professional Aptitude at CFA Hylaire de Chardonnay in Besançon, France.

Denizot will be spearheading the creation of the resort’s seasonal menus, rotating every few months and highlighting the freshest local ingredients that are abundant for the season, along with a revamped ‘Bellini Brunch’ menu served on The Terrace each Sunday. Denizot’s recently debuted spring menu features Santa Barbara Spotted Prawns Crudo with Ojai Pixies Segments; Organic Cauliflower Soup, Roasted California Black Cod with Passion Fruit and Yam Potato; Local Halibut with a Coastal Freckle Lettuce Fresno Chili, and more. Guests can expect to be dazzled by Denizot’s signature Halibut Sashimi and King Crab Leg dishes, along with the resort’s signature “Enchanted Floating Island” dessert.

Denizot’s true passion for food and quality of product, along with his accomplishments in the savory and sweet worlds, make him an integral addition to the Belmond El Encanto’s superior culinary team. A resident of Santa Barbara, Denizot enjoys playing drums and road biking in his spare time.
