‘Friday Night Lights’ Comes to Santa Barbara!

‘Friday Night Lights’ Comes to Santa Barbara!“>
Tuesday, May 31st 2016: Friday nights in Santa Barbara will never be the same this Fall. Beginning Friday, September 9th, kids from all over Santa Barbara County will be playing in a brand new Flag Football League called ‘Friday Night Lights’. Santa Barbara ‘FNL’ is for boys and girls of all different skill levels who are in grades K-8. These kids will meet-up and play flag football this Fall, under the evening field lights at La Colina Junior High School. The non-contact format is a 6v6 passing league where every child will play a minimum of 3 out of 4 quarters! What is great about this league, is that kids get to play with their own classmates, neighbors and friends! There is also an FNL flag football camp this summer that will get them ready for the Fall season. This years FNL Football Camp will be led by the staff at San Marcos High School’s football program and takes place at San Marcos High School from 10a-12n on July 18th - July 21st.

FNL Co-Commissioners Ted & Nevin Pallad along with their 4 children decided to move back to Santa Barbara last August from Palos Verdes, CA. where they had lived for over 12 years. They wanted to come ‘home’ to be with family & friends and to introduce their kids to the quality of life found only in Santa Barbara. Nevin was born and raised here and was thrilled to have the opportunity to return ‘home’ and to introduce FNL to her friends & family. Nevin’s husband Ted, played tackle football for over 6 years while growing up in Orange County. He is excited to finally have the opportunity to have his kids play football without the concern of potential head injuries we consistently hear about with contact sports. “FNL is a safe, fun and exciting environment for kids of all ages to enjoy! Watching the FNL program in Orange County that my brother-in-law Chris started over 10 years ago, made our decision to bring this league to Santa Barbara an easy one! We are all so busy as parents, so its great to have only one practice per week and not having to travel on the weekends for games, since all the games are played at La Colina on Friday Night. “Family is the foundation of FNL and we want everyone’s Friday night to be fun. We’ll have some great football games, music, treats, food trucks and other surprises throughout the season so it ends up being a really fun ‘Friday night family date-night!”

Friday Night Lights is a non-profit organization that was founded by Mark Broersma and Chris Ketcham in 2006, in Los Alamitos, CA. Their vision was to bring a high quality FUN Flag Football league to cities throughout California. Previously kids have had very limited, if any, opportunities to participate in the most exciting sport in America…..Flag Football. Today, Friday Night Lights “Youth Flag Football”, has over 20,000 participants, and is the largest youth flag football league in the US. The Online registration period for the Fall season and the FNL Summer Camp is currently running through June 15th. Parents can sign their kids up on-line at
