Help “Fill the Bowl” at Foodbank of Santa Barbara County’s 19th Annual Empty Bowls!

Santa Barbara, CA. October, 2016 – The Foodbank of Santa Barbara County invites the community to help “fill the bowl,” and join them at the 19th Annual Santa Barbara Empty Bowls fundraiser on Sunday, November 13, 2016 from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm at the Ben Page Youth Center. Alongside neighbors and friends, this annual event helps raise awareness about food insecurity throughout our community and raise funds to support the Foodbank in their mission to end hunger in Santa Barbara County.
“Each year, hundreds of supporters come together to “fill the bowl,” and help support the Foodbank’s effort to raise critical funds to serve the 1 in 4 individuals in Santa Barbara County that receive food support through our 300 programs and partners annually,” shared Erik Talkin, CEO of the Foodbank of Santa Barbara County. “With the loyal support of local artists, ceramicists, and restaurants, we are honored to continue a beloved tradition, while fulfilling our mission to move Santa Barbara from hunger into health.”
This year’s Empty Bowls fundraiser in Santa Barbara will feature soups from over 20 local restaurants, and over 1,200 bowls donated by local ceramic artists and art students of all ages. For $30, guests attending Empty Bowls select a beautiful handcrafted ceramic bowl, enjoy a simple meal of gourmet soup and homemade bread, and take home the bowl as a reminder of the meal’s purpose – to help feed the hungry in Santa Barbara.
After lunch, Empty Bowls guests can experience the work of the Foodbank first hand and participate in a walking tour of the warehouse facility located next door to the Page Center. Guests are also encouraged to learn more about the Foodbank at demonstration booths, sample a smoothie from the human powered bike blender, and enjoy a dessert of pie and coffee from The French Press.
This year’s Empty Bowls will feature a raffle drawing with an assortment of prizes, including overnight stays at some of Santa Barbara’s most exclusive resorts, dinners at the finest restaurants, plus gifts, treasures and more! Attendees can also participate in an auction and for ceramic gifts handcrafted by the same talented artists who donate the soup bowls.
