DVS Vigil

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Domestic Violence Solutions Welcomes Two New Staff Members
SANTA BARBARA, CA, October 19, 2016 - Domestic Violence Solutions (DVS), Santa Barbara County’s only full-service provider of 24-hour emergency shelter and services for domestic violence victims is pleased to welcome two new staff members: Anne Barkett and Zoe Echternacht.
Although Anne Barkett hails from the Midwest, she has called Southern California her home for the last three years. She studied both Psychology and Communications in Washington and then proceeded to move to Latin America. While living in Guatemala, she started a program empowering women in farming communities on the southern coast, where she worked for nearly four years.
Upon moving to Santa Barbara, Barkett worked for a local NGO serving Latino youth and families for two and a half years. She is committed to the advocacy and empowerment of women, community development and social justice. She is excited to join the DVS team, as the Community Programs & Operations (Senior Lead Advocate), where she will further develop operational partner relationships and manage the shelter and 2nd stage programs.
When Barkett is not working, she enjoys hiking in the Santa Barbara mountains, practicing yoga, cooking Lebanese food, and working towards her Masters of Social Work degree at Boston University (online).
Zoe Echternacht was born and raised in Santa Barbara and is a proud Don alumnae. She completed her undergraduate degree at the University of Nebraska – Lincoln with bachelors in marketing. While in school she worked at the Lied Center for Performing Arts as a Development Intern, and upon graduating was hired as the Development Coordinator.
Echternacht just recently decided to return to her favorite city and hometown, and is thrilled to join DVS as the Marketing & Communications Specialist. She has a passion for sparking true societal change through education and awareness in the nonprofit community.
During her down time you can catch Echternacht lounging on the beach, spinning at the gym, walking around the Funk Zone, playing basketball or participating in anything art related.
Domestic Violence Solutions is dedicated to ending the cycle of domestic violence by providing prevention and intervention services, emotional support and advocacy to those in crisis, and playing a leadership role in effecting social change throughout Santa Barbara County.
In 2015, DVS answered more than 6,250 Domestic Violence calls on its four crisis lines, provided 12,212 shelter nights to victims, responded to more than 468 domestic violence support calls from law enforcement and emergency rooms at the victims’ location, and assisted 949 victims in acquiring legal assistance. In 2015, 61 percent of those supported in the DVS shelters were children.
