Can you make a burger that’s worth $100,000? George Levinthal certainly thinks he can, and he is making plans right now to prove it. George successfully qualified for the world’s largest event in Food Sport - the World Food Championships (WFC). From Nov 9-15th, He will be competing for a $300,000 prize purse and the title of 2016 World Food Champion in Orange Beach, Alabama.
George and Team Santa Barbara consisting of L. J. Washington and Annie Peyrat are one of 430 teams from across the world who will be seeking the ultimate food crown. George won the chance to compete at WFC by winning a coveted spot in Just a Pinch’s recipe contest (justapinch.com) As a result, He will now have a shot for a major payday at WFC, where $100,000 is awarded for the best dish overall and $10,000 is awarded in nine different categories: BBQ, Chili, Dessert, Bacon, Sandwich, Seafood, Burger, Steak, and Recipe.
“Winning my category would be an awesome feat,” said George “But winning the whole tournament with the best dish? That would be a dream come true!”

There’s also a good chance that Team Santa Barbara will be seen on TV, as this event is filmed for national cable television each year. It has been seen on the A&E Network as well as the Discovery Network.
George & La Juane have both been winners in Santa Barbara Independent’s annual grilling contests and have been on TV. LJ on the Today Show and local Channel 3 and George on the Cooking Channel. George has also been a 2 time winner in the Los Angeles Times Battle of the Burgers. Competition cooking is in their blood and Annie has been a great part of their success.
