Exploring Channel Islands National Park at Central Library

Thursday, April 20, James Wapotich will share images and stories in his presentation Exploring the Channel Islands National Park at the Central Library. This is part of a new series sponsored by the Santa Barbara Public Library. The Wilderness Hiking Series is on the third Thursday of each month and will cover a range of topics including hiking, backpacking, and our local natural history.

Just off the coast, the Channel Islands represent a unique environment. With their diverse plants and animals, some of which are found nowhere else in the world, the islands have been referred to as the Galapagos of North America. Learn how to get there, where to go, and what to see on these beautiful islands. The islands within the Channel Islands National Park include Anacapa, Santa Cruz, Santa Rosa, San Miguel, and Santa Barbara, and all five offer hiking and camping opportunities.

James Wapotich has hiked on all five of the islands within the National Park and is the author of the Santa Barbara News-Press hiking column, Trail Quest.

As with all programs sponsored by the Public Library, admission is free and open to all.
Thursday, April 20 at 6:30 p.m. at Central Library. For more information, call 805-564-5641.
