Fourth Grader Caroline Horton Launches Petition to Ban Single-Use Plastic Bottles in Santa Barbara County

I’m a 4th Grader at Montecito Union School. I’d LOVE to have you cover my kickoff of my petition to ban single-use plastic bottles in Santa Barbara County tomorrow at 8:30am at my school. I hope to get my Initiative on the ballot at the next election!
Below are all the details…

“If you’re a voter in Santa Barbara County, please consider signing nine-year-old Caroline Horton’s Petition to Ban Single-Use Plastic Water Bottles, which are the #1 ocean polluter! Santa Barbara banned plastic bags (the #2 ocean polluter), now it’s time to ban single-use plastic water bottles and save our oceans from plastic pollution. My kick-off event for my petition is tomorrow Friday 4/21 at 8:30 am at Montecito Union School. I will be showing my 2-minute anti-plastic-pollution film “Oceans Are Forever”, inspire by my friend Dr. Sylvie Earle, who I brought to campus to speak to my entire school several years ago, and by the beautiful oceans I have seen on my snorkel trips to Ningaloo Reef & Coral Bay (Western Australia), Great Barrier Reef (Eastern Australia), Lana’i, Maui and at home in Santa Barbara. My film premiered at the Santa Barbara screening of “A Plastic Ocean” earlier this year. It also was the inspiration for Montecito Union School’s first-ever Earth Week focusing on plastic pollution and a student letter-writing campaign to ban single-use plastic bottles on campus. Please come on April 21! Don’t forget to stop by the school office to pick up your visitor’s badge. To learn more and support my petition, please join my facebook group called “Ban The Bottle SB!” Caroline Horton’s Petition to Ban Plastic Water Bottles. I will start collecting paper signatures on my petition officially on May 28 at Lower Manning Park at 2pm… please stop by and sign! I will have 180 days to collect roughly 10,000 paper signatures… then my “Ban The Bottle” will either be adopted immediately by our County Supervisors, or will go on the next election ballot! Thank you!” ~Caroline Horton
