Isla Vista Food Cooperative going solar!

EVENT: Sun Power Solarbration!
WHERE: Isla Vista Food Cooperative Patio 6575 Seville Rd. Isla Vista, CA 93117
WHEN: Sunday, June 4th 3-5pm
WHO: RE-volv, UCSB Solar Ambassadors, and the Isla Vista Food Cooperative. RE-volv is a non-profit solar financing company based in San Francisco that empowers other non-profits and co-operatives to utilize renewable energy through the power of community crowd-funding. Their Solar Ambassador Fellowship program enables university students across the nation to spearhead their own crowdfunding campaigns and directly combat climate change by providing solar panels for a local community organization. The Isla Vista Food Cooperative is a natural and organic foods consumer cooperative that provides the residents of Isla Vista and neighboring communities in Santa Barbara County with reasonably priced foods, products, and services that promote a healthier lifestyle and environment.
SUMMARY: The Isla Vista Food Co-op is going solar! With RE-volv and the UCSB Solar Ambassadors, the Isla Vista Food Co-operative has installed a 25 kW system that will provide over 33% of the store’s energy needs. Through RE-volv’s Solar Ambassador Fellowship Program, 4 UCSB students carried out a crowdfunding campaign in which over 100 community members donated to a revolving fund that allowed the Isla Vista Food Cooperative to receive Santa Barbara’s first and only community-funded solar array. With this new energy system, the Co-op will prevent over 1.3 million pounds of carbon emissions from entering the atmosphere. To celebrate, there will be a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Sunday, June 4th, on the Co-op patio, with solar speakers remarking on the conclusion of the project, raffle prizes
