What’s up, no love for the Chocolate Lounge? [“The Truth Behind Tonic,” 6/5/08, independent.com/truthtonic]. These guys have had the best music in town and have been supporting house for a long time. Downtown is great and all, but to really say that Tonic supports that genre is wrong. Look at the Chocolate Lounge lineup. If you have been here for a while, you know deejays such as Joel Patrick, Sam Guzman, Jammar, Luis, and Sean Ray (a k a DJ Ducky) who have been playing house here for years. Remember the Madhouse, Ducky’s show on late night radio, or even the beach parties at Butterfly? How about “Word of Mouth”? These few have been striving to make the scene here, and they always get shoved out of the way for the bright lights and long lines on State St. Why not house music?

The reason is easy. Santa Barbara isn't sophisticated enough to appreciate true House Music. If DJ A.M. is your point of reference for House Music, then you need to take a trip to the Mecca (Chicago) the birth place of House.
