Various Santa Barbara County groups have chosen to pay tribute to the events of September 11, 2001 today. Among these events are the following:

The documentary 9/11 101 screens at 7:15 p.m. at the Unitarian Society's Jefferson Hall at 1525 Santa Barbara Street.

Westmont students will be gathering on their campus's Kerrwood Lawn at 6:30 p.m. tonight to be led in a prayer service by religious studies professor Dr. William Nelson. Students have also placed 1,500 flags on the lawn, with American flags each representing two victims and 114 white flags representing the nations who lost victims in the 9/11 attacks.

Earlier today, members of the Santa Barbara County Fire Department joined fellow firefighters around the country in mourning those who died on 9/11. A minute of silence was observed at 6:58 a.m., and the flag raised to half-staff. La Colina Junior High School also paid tribute to 9/11 victims today by placing 150 small flags near its school flag. The ceremony included a display of 9/11 facts assembled by student government and leadership class students. Finally, the space wing at Vandenberg Air Force Base hosted a 9/11 remembrance ceremony at an on-site chapel. The event included a speech from U.S. Air Force Maj. Brian Smith, a survivor of the attack on the Pentagon.

There is a slight error in the above story: I hosted 911-101, the commemorative and educational event at the Unitarian Society on Tuesday, 9/11/2007. Thanks to the Independent's 1/4 page feature, in addition to the weekly Calendar listing, about 60 people attended and we formed a Meetup Group to continue our investigations http://9-11.meetup.com/352. The correct title of the film I showed was "9/11 Press for Truth", which I highly recommend http://911pft.com.
