Santa Barbara County restaurant goers eager to find out exactly how much care is being taken in the kitchenss that prepare their food may want to look into a new service being offered by the County Public Health Department: online postings of health inspections. The system has a few kinks to be worked out — for example, links that don’t yet seem to go anywhere and an interface that only lets users search restaurants by name instead of scrolling over a list of the highest-to-lowest ranked eateries — but as of January 2, the service has been conceivably helping to make necessary information about these approximately 2,700 establishments all the easier to get.
“This tool allows consumers to quickly and conveniently check whether restaurants and other food facilities are meeting appropriate health and safety standards,” said Rick Merrifield, Director of Environmental Health Services, in a written statement. “This approach has an advantage over grading systems in that it provides specific information on major violations identified in the inspections and indicates when the major violations identified have been corrected.”
The most egregious infractions that health inspectors — and, for that matter, diners — should be watching out for include improper food holding temperatures, employee illness, improper cooling and reheating, infestation of rodents or insects, improper food storage and handling, lack of hot and cold running water, or improper disposal of wastewater.
The main site for the new service can be found here, but to go directly to the restaurant search page, click here.

About time , maybe they will start to close down some of these dirty unwashed places in the area and re-store Santa Barbara which was known for its good restaurants! If some of these dumps and high priced ones were in other NORMAL cities around this country they would be closed by the board of health at once. To "Binky " no its not "COOL" its normal in every other city and most counties in the USA. P.S. Kitchen help PLEASE WASH YOUR HANDS AFTER USING THE REST ROOMS, wear gloves. Its time for the real Santa Barbara to stand up , take back your restaurants, close half of that trash on State St. , THAT MIGHT HELP WITH THE DAILY GANG WARS AND KNIFE FIGHTS ALSO . Maybe its time to clean out city hall also and the Police Dept. since they dont care about whats going on. On State St. Add more police , and inspect and get info on all the kitchen help in this county Now ! No Binky its not
" COOL" ITS A MATTER OF HEALTH FOR THE GENERAL PUBLIC ! P.S. I WAS AT A 4 STAR EATERY, THE OTHER NIGHT, ONE OF THE KITCHEN HELP CAME OUT OF THE MENS ROOM AFTER DOING HIS BUSINESS WITHOUT WASHING HIS HANDS , AFTER I TOLD THE " MANAGER " ALL I GOT WAS A BLANK LOOK. NEED I SAY MORE, I WENT OVER TO THE TABLE AND TOLD EVERYONE IN MY PARTY AND WE ALL WALKED OUT... One More thing , #1 Comment from all over the country now about SBC eateries. " Not unless i have to , most of them are unsafe or just plan dirty" SAD COMMENTS I have heard !
