Yahoo!At its January 8 meeting, the Montecito Association Board of Directors voted 12-2 in support of developer Rick Caruso's plans for renovating the long-neglected Miramar Hotel. The association's conceptual endorsement of the 202-room resort—with its bungalows, three restaurants, two swimming pools, and tennis court—will be passed along to the Montecito Planning Commission for when it begins its review of the project January 16. An announcement from Caruso spokesperson Matt Middlebrook expressed appreciation for the association's support following its extensive "advice and critique" over the past year. The homeowners' association tagged onto its endorsement a request that the planning commission "be mindful" of remaining land use issues, and Montecito Association Executive Director Victoria Greene said she and other association higher-ups will continue to examine the plan as it proceeds through the process.

Taking its information straight from a press release, this story originally stated that the Montecito Board of Architectural Review approved the Miramar project in December. That is not accurate. The project came before the MBAR for conceptual review only, which according to board secretary Jason Moore means that no vote is taken; the boardmembers look at the concept and make comments. The comments at the December 17 meeting were mostly favorable.
