Twelve years after bike activists started pushing for a better way to get under the hair-raising Highway 101 overpass on Mission Street, the city is executing a contract with Lash Construction for a striped bike lane and sidewalk improvements to the tune of $2,176,000, which was the lowest of six bids, for a total project cost of $2.9 million.

Mission Street under the 101 is horrible for bicyclists and these improvements will come too late for this unfortunate rider. Get busy, Santa Barbara!

Bike riders should instead use the much safer West Anapamu, West Micheltorena, or West Junipero Street bridges.
