Amnesty International recently reported that Israel killed 650 Palestinians in 2006 alone; half of those were unarmed civilians, and 120 of those were children. Yes, 120 children were killed by Israel in 2006 alone. One would surmise that this must reflect some equal level of terrorist activity by Palestinians. That same report lists 27 Israeli deaths by Palestinians, 20 of whom were unarmed civilians and 1 was a child. 120 Palestinian children: 1 Israeli child. I revisit this report because, in response to the firing of rockets from Gaza that killed one unarmed civilian, the Israeli military killed 101 Palestinians in a four-day period last week. Forty-nine of those were unarmed civilians, including 25 children and 5 women.
Ask yourself: What would be the US response to a hypothetical scenario involving such a casualty figure of Israeli children? I would expect (and hope) that it would be loud indignation and a willingness to assist Israel in any way in its fight against terrorism. Curiously, though, on Tuesday, the administration blamed Hamas for these deaths and reclaimed Israel’s right to defend itself. Of course, I would ask how the death of children (including a 5-month old) contributes to that right but, regardless, I assume that same right belongs to the Palestinian people and that Israel will be blamed for future Israeli deaths? Let us stop this insanity. How about recognizing the value of human life – whether it be Israeli or Palestinian?? That seems to be too much to ask.

According Walid's "moral" argument, Israel can only be right if more Israelis were allowed to be murdered. The fact that Hamas rules the Gaza strip, with Israel being fully withdrawn from that terrority is irrelevant. The fact the Hamas launches random missiles on kindergarten playgrounds, college buildings and private homes, is not worth a mention. That Hamas uses civilian surrounds to lauch their 30 - 50 daily and random missiles on major and minor Israeli towns, is unimportant. So Associate Professor of Communiciations - how do you suggest Israel stops an enemy that hides amongst its people? Or is Israel meant to wait till its death toll is high enough so it can receive your "moral" sanction to fight back?

All the killing going over there totally sucks. Israel is no band of angels but Hamas and Hezbollah are worse. They randomly fire missiles into civilain areas and hope to kill some civilians. They don't even pretend to be targeting military installations. The Israelis are at least trying to target specific missile launch sites or known or suspected terrroists and bombers who are, in this context, a legitimate military target. They kill innocent civilians, not intentionally, but becuase Hamas and Hezbollah hide amongst civilians and launch their missiles froim Mosques and apartment buildings. The world did little or nothing the last time organized military tried and almost succeeded to wipe Jews from the face of the Earth. They will do so again this time and Israel would be crazy to expect much help. They have a right to defend themselves. They have no choice but to defend themselves.

Israel defends itself in Gaza, while brutally expanding on the West Bank and East Jerusalem on the American dime. Noletaman and Thinkagain conveniently forgot about THAT! Let's visualize no beef with Islam. Full public campaign financing would greatly undercut the dictatorial power of the Israel Lobby, and slay a lot of corrupting corporate dragons as well. We can support such reform and bring back democracy, without ever having to utter the dreaded J word.
Unfortunately, most Americans fear accusations of "antisemitism" to the point that they'd rather see our country go under with them on it, rather than risk being called names in public by glib bullies. But the ADL canards are all so stale that they've become transparent! Squawk forth, all you who think America matters!
