A graduate of Rhode Island School of Design's Industrial Design program, he spent a quarter-century in the font industry (Compugraphic, Information International, URW, Xerox) as designer, manager, techie, and character-standards expert. Also studied with Hermann Zapf. Has taught (Otis-Parsons) and lectured on type design and typography (UCLA, RIT, Hamburg, Taipei, Beijing, SBCC, UCSB, and AIGA). Developed The Indy's Edit-Production document templates and stylesheets in 2003-6. Still proofreads weekly print articles and advises on typographic best practices. Personal interests: Food and wines, politics, modernist interiors, astronomy.
