I would hope the issue at hand here is more about shady hazing practices and questionable integrity - rather than a question of noise or alcohol. I do not think either of those two are the problem - but rather the culture of Frat life and the corresponding reaction to severe infractions. It is largely unregulated until somebody messes up and gets the boot while the other frats say - hey we arent doing those things....its an isolated incident.....which it never is. I went to UCSB and had friends in all these crappy frats. All my friends were in sig ep and that got closed down 2 years ago....the character of most of the members was not very promising.
Off topic - I just want to say that on the Independent forum boards while people might disagree often times - there is still a level of respect that is maintained. I commend most of the folks who frequent these boards - the folks on Noozhawk are some seriously cats.

I agree with most everything Blah said and some things that Loon said - although to a less intense degree.
I believe "the powers that be" should make it as impossible as hell for out-of-towners to get into Isla Vista by putting checkpoints at every entrance and having some drug sniffing pups - that would scare the low lifes enough. Definitely eliminate all avenues for people to park anywhere near IV to stop them from having a home base near the party zone.
Blah - I ask you why you would want to bring your kids anywhere near IV for events like this? You know as well as I do that people who live in IV are 90% college age drunks who do not have any regard for respect around a more innocent populace. Just bring your kids to SB - im sure there are great places to trick or treat around there. I agree with you that these kids in IV now are complete degenerates and are speedily destroying the unique vibe that IV had been famous for - but you cannot expect anything to change now
Loon - I do agree that Agent Provocateurs are placed into crowds at large events that have a probability for volatility, such as Halloween in IV ( I have seen this first hand at the G Political Summits) I agree the police in IV are inclined to react more harshly these days and do many times react emotionally rather than through the bearing of a true Police Officer. Having said that, you cannot be serious in absolving the current IV population of guilt by saying they are arrested for no reason....man...i lived in IV from 2006-20012 (with taking one year to study abroad) - and these kids drink every single time to blackout (i have been guilty of this) and then behave like complete bafoons that cannot handle their drink, are not compassionate or caring at all towards one another, and more often than not are only concerned about the next round of boos or casual sex. The new alcohol ordinances are complete bullcrap and unconstitutional - but the increasingly apathetic and immature generations coming into IV have done nothing but add fuel to that fire.

BlahBlah - seriously man what is your deal? All i see from you is anger, badmouthing people, and saying how terrible IV is. This is an article about a young life being lost - not a forum about how IVers have lost their way. Sure loon goes over the top sometimes - but his heart is near the right place. Have you ever lived in IV? and if so what was your experience like?

This is just hella sad - she had so much more life to live. I won't surmise the exact circumstances of her passing. I went to ucsb 2007-2012 - these cliffs are treacherous and the view of the ocean can captivate one into losing your bearings without even being drunk. A better fence would absolutely prevent these falls from happening regardless of the case - but Isla Vista is broke and Santa Barbara county doesn't do shi*t to help the residents. They only help private businesses and put more cops on the street who really dont give a crap about anybody living there.

You are correct about word etymology - but that's it. Words may not be "proprietary" but certain words are invariably linked to particular events and the cultural attitudes that surround them. Their usage of the word holocaust is an attempt to garner attention generated by contrived controversy - aka the model of their entire operation. Its the same as using the word "slavery" in a group name.
