I have not been able to get an Obama rep to respond to this question, and don't know if The Independent vetted it before making their endorsement. In the NV debate Obama lumped all families making over $97,500 together, saying that this was the top 6% of the nation and that clearly all such people should be taxed higher to pay for his programs. Maybe in the midwest...but in SB, families who earn $130,000 are eligible for some forms of affordable housing because they NEED help. The same week as that comment, Obama's wife made a comment on Good Morning America re: giving to charity...along the lines of 'just give up one pedicure a month....' Well, our family makes over $97,500--both of us work, but I can't afford pedicures, because I have an SB mortgage!
I like Obama on the other issues, but this is a serious disconnect with the reality of the cost of living in coastal communities. I emailed his campaign and have tried to reach local headquarters w/o success. Any response?
