Let me be one of the first to thank the firefighters for successful containment of the Live Oak area of the Zaca fire. It only took 58 days, but what a agonizing two months of heroic work. I agree with other commenters that Ray Ford should get an award and write a book from these articles. Great reporting job!

On Zaca Fire May Be In Final Stages

Posted on August 14 at 3:09 p.m.

As a newcomer to SB, I attended the Town Hall meeting last Friday. It was an overflow crowd. I was immediately impressed with the support (applause) given to the fire fighters, police and other support personnel trying their best to inform, educate and bear up under the obvious strain of a fire of this magnitude. Having been involved with disaster planning for hurricanes, I know the huge task it is to plan, execute and communicate during a major crisis. I came away from the meeting concerned about the safety of the personnel fighting the fire and the safety of others personal property, but glad to live in a area so prepared for such an event (given the uncertainties of nature and the weather). My prayers and my appreciation are with all who are trying to control this fire and those citizens who are supporting the men and women who are on the front lines. Thanks.
