FACT: The County's transportation budget has dwindled to more than half of 2001 levels. FACT: SBCAG decided to take away all of the RTIP and STIP monies away from County Transportation for many many years and put them toward regional projects like the Caltrans widening in Santa Maria and to fully fund the 101 bridge that was halfway in SLO County. This is a huge hit to our roads. FACT: The Highway Users Tax Account has fallen every year and the "Gas Tax Swap" that was done more than a year ago has failed to keep up with the increase in electric vehicles and the taxes at the pump. And gas taxes prior to that have not kept up with inflation as they were never indexed. Pointing the finger at Mr. McGolpin is wrong as I have seen him tirelessly fight for infrastructure dollars in our County and other counties in California. Whether you care that he gets a pension or not, it should not be part of this discussion.

I was there at the accident. I live very close by and am neither a fan of the casino or driving around under the influence coming from wineries. The reality though is that this accident had nothing to do with either the casino or the wine industry…just some poor old lady who was dedicated to our community and some lost soul under the influence. This could have been anywhere.
