Does the plant even work? I drive by the plant daily and am curious as to what parts or part of the Desal plant were removed years ago. Is it true that a mid eastern country (Saudi Arabia) bought millions of dollars of inventory of the plant at pennies on the dollar and is that what was removed?

RCM I am at a disadvantage as to your qualifications to dispute qualifications of any PhD. yet alone this PhD? I feel you might be the best person to answer your own questions and report back on the facts to substantiate your stance rather dissecting personal and professional characteristics. I understand your position on recently graduated students as it might possibly relate to hiring in some fields (more to A.A's and B.A's)......I feel you've stepped in something warm in this particular instance.
Mr Huglin....Are looking for support from the community or maintaining a militia of Montecito Homeowners? Put up or shut...are those fighting words? You've run up against people who want the hoi polloi informed and involved. Continue to support Mr. Caruso and your cause but realize he knows a good many things that have put him among the tops in his field. He knows what it takes and calculates the risk to time to profit ratio .....and.....knows when to hold'em and knows when to fold'em ....not your call.
It is America and processes are provided that attempt to allow the majority and hopefully the informed to rule.

I sense a bit grandstanding certainly bashing and non positive focusing.
I have read your response on Feb 21 on a relative topic
"I too am disgusted and turned away by the increasing population of homeless individuals and groups loitering on State St. It changes the landscape, feel and comfort of enjoying the commerce our city has to offer. I can no longer take my children for a stroll downtown to enjoy an ice cream cone without being accosted by these transients.
I can appreciate the plight of our veterans and legitimate victims of society, but our community offers help to many of these who simply refuse to take advantage (or refuse to get sober to reap the benefits of) our social services. I hope to hear more from you on issues that befall you and your - no make that "our" community. Make of your replies what you wish......I have and ask or perhaps even expect more of "legitimate "non victims" of society" whoever they are?

I don't understand the political bantering as it applies to this situation. A lot of people tried to do the right thing in the actual incident.. I include the Lifeguard, the bystanders, the teacher and even the children. The reporting and discussions are also the right thing but should not be the final word.
I don't see where this is the venue to try the teacher or the methodology of teaching. I'm sorry this hasn't or wasn't and isn't being decided by the involved parents and teacher. The parents should understand and know what their care provider is about and have some sense of the child's activities and teacher choices at the daycare or school.
Time and resources are and were misdirected in order to come to the ultimate adult "parental" choices. It means I'm not going to tell your children they have to climb a hill or do anything they aren't comfortable doing or allowed to do at (home or) the day care you enrolled them in....and you're asked kindly not to tell me or my children or my child's responsible party what my child can or isn't allowed to do at (home or) day care I enrolled them in. Good luck to the concerned teacher, children, and the parents.
