Everyone in this story is a hero to me. The Immaculate Heart Community is an inspiring order that stands for the highest in human values. They are the caretakers of La Casa de Maria, a very special place and a wonderful community asset. I personally saw Jim Villanueva and his Board work tirelessly to keep La Casa de Maria out of bankruptcy a number of years ago, and dedicate themselves to making sure the site continued to be a home for spiritual retreat (rather than a few more residential home sites in Montecito). They are also heroes in this story. Thanks to all of these people, La Casa de Maria is flourishing and will continue to do so for many years to come.
