PS: I'll bet the next law we'll see is "passenger doors to remain locked in all taxi's until arrival at the first requested destination" with penalties for changing your mind.

@chilldrenfthenight: He's in jail because he (unfortunately) hit a human being (also unfortunately stupidly drunk) and LEFT THE SCENE. If you're not yet aware of it, there's a law (or probably a few, considering this is THE Nanny State) that says leaving the scene of a hit and run is illegal, therefor, he broke that law.

One more thought: If the owner of the property has relied on W&F, a (supposed) professional management company, to properly maintain their building and inform said owners of necessary improvements/repairs... and they just did the bare minimum (paint over visual damage - seriously? although I am not surprised... anything to save an almighty buck) I can just see all the finger pointing back and forth in court now... ugh.

@edukder: SO true...

Hmmm... as much as I deplore W&A and their half-a$$ed idea of property "management", I would actually like to see if there are ANY reports/complaints/notifications sent to W&A regarding that particular unit/balcony, from the past tenants over the last, oh, let's say five years.
If there are any, then that is reason enough to at least place some of the responsibility (these are college-aged people, one would expect they should have a modicum of common sense...no?) for this unfortunate accident, that piling 20+ people on an already questionable balcony is just not safe.
If there weren't any notifications, and W&A wasn't out there doing at least, yearly physical inspections on the structural integrity of what obviously gets abused by most college aged tenants and their guests... then yeah, time for a serious wake-up call for W&A and all property management companies and owners of said rental units.

Why are the actual addresses published? Specifically the last one, in my opinion, seems like an advertisement for thieves (granted, assuming they read this) for future hits upon this particular residence. I get it that the info is in police reports, but why does the Indy need to expose the victims of these crimes even more?

How about we decriminalize marijuana and find something else much more threatening to focus on... like GMO's taking over our food supplies, nuclear plant meltdowns, the criminals on Wall Street getting away with massive robbery... I could go on, but I find that it gets really depressing when much of the nation either has their heads up their arses or buried in the sand, and/or sometimes both.

@blackpoodles: Well said... and yet I will expand a bit more on why I think it's nuts that people (I'm assuming we're talking about adults that do most the shopping, right?) need to be "taught" to make better choices... isn't that just more "mollycoddling"?
I can't tell you how many people I've encountered that "chose" their iPhones, Nike's, Juicy Couture, flat screen TV's and cars they can't possibly afford over making any real effort to find a way to obtain fresh fruits, vegetables and eating/living healthier overall.
Thus in my not-at-all-humble opinion, it's an honest lack of effort, not the lack of better options available, as everyone knows, all those other "better things" required an effort to obtain, most of it is not within a half-mile radius within IV either, and yet they managed to figure all that out without anyone "teaching" them.
So, in effort to make things even easier, how about someone speak to the local Farmer's Market people and get one started in IV once or twice a week, simply to increase and compliment the availability of healthier food options that the Coop already carries... Just my ten cents.
