I agree. EnoughAlready. Shut them down Pedro Nava. Shut down Rincon Island too. It is unbeliveable Greka is still spilling. 1600 gallons of oil in just this latest spill is no small amount. And it's always someone elses fault, according to Greka. Is it that hard not to spill oil on the ground on a weekly basis? "Greka Green" my ass.

How did this so quickly degenerate into a discussion over the legalization of pot? The fact is that it is not legal to cultivate in these amounts and the police say there was no connection to medical marijuana. In fact, grows like this hurt the medical marijuana movement when people fail to obey that law, grow way over the legal amount, and then well meaning proponents of legalization spring to their defense. The guy broke the law in a big way and got caught. This wasn't a housewife unlawfully growing a few plants. How can anyone have sympathy for him?
Not to mention that he will doubtless use a medical marijuana defense, further hurting the movement when people associate this profiteer with legal growers.

Greka operates an oil drilling facility in the Pacific Ocean, right off shore in Mussel Shoals. It is that small Island that you all see, with a bridge running to it, when driving on the 101 just South of Carpinteria. Do you want Greka to spill oil in the ocean just like they've done on their own land? Unlike Greka's facilities in Santa Barbara, the land for the island in Ventura County is not even owned by Greka. It is owned by the State.... essentially you own it. When Greka was pumping they were only giving a couple hundred thousand a year in royalties to the State. It costs the State more in enforcement expenses. Now Greka is no longer pumping and this is a reason under State law to revoke their production agreement with the State. Please call Assemblyman Pedro Nava's office at (805) 483-9808 and ask him what he can do to shut down Rincon Island and make it a marine preserve.

The SB Independent is not "the media". It is a single publication and the author of the stories clearly has a bias and an agenda regarding Frimpong. The article if rife with opinion of the author. What real mainstream media publication bolds certain portions of its text for emphasis. A straight retelling requires no creative adjectives, slanted nuance or bolded phrases. Thus, I concluded after reading this authors first story on this that something was left out. Thus I read other publications on the internet and found that much is left out. Before you all challenge me to debate you on this case as you have one juror, I'd tell you that it is not my responsibility (nor that of the juror to educate you on anything). Look it up on Google news yourself.

Damn, you are a little wet behind the ears aren't you? Sorry for that, but you are a defense attorney's dream. First and foremost, anyone can be paid to say anything. And, yes, that includes prosecution experts as well. But the evidence in question is inconclusive at best. And that does not make Frimpong guilty or innocent, in and of itself. There is an abundance of other physical evidence in the case and that evidence not only points to Frimpong, but the implausible theories that the defense puts forth strain logic. The judge said the evidence in this case was overwhelming against Frimpong. Like youself, I wasn't there but the judge was and the jury were.
Suppose there was no physical evidence. The girl says she was raped and Frimpong says she grabbed down his pants getting her DNA on his crotch (unlikely from a sampling standpoint) and that he rejected her advances (unlikely from a male in his early 20's). Could she be lying? Sure, I guess. But what is the possible motive for a university student to lie? She has none that I can think of. And he does. He doesn't want to go to jail for 8 years (more like 4). It's far from a perfect system and innocent people do go to jail. Many cases upset me because of lack of evidence but I won't be losing any sleep over this one at all.

Will you please stop calling your articles "Greka spills again"? When I see the articles online, I can't determine if I've already read the article. You need to start numbering them .... "Greka spills 567th time" .... or "Greka spills twice during first week of March 2008", etc.

And the rape victim is lying to protect the "real rapist"? Ok. And she wants Frimpong to do 3-8 years in prision because he rejected her advances when she stuck her hand down his pants? I think I understand. Well, the whole soccer team was there supporting him, so Frimpong probably is innocent, I guess. I don't think a prominent defense attorney like Bob Sanger would just make all of this up, do you? Another trial would be just fine, regardless of what it will cost the taxpayers. After all, one juror felt she was rushed.
