It doesn't sound like the county supervisors were all that helpful.

So RobEngolf - saving 2.5 years of construction time is more important than eliminating a known and proven hazard?

And to note - I would say that the people of Montecito (such victims of the terrible terrible world out there) have been pretty fairly chastised.

This is one battle where I hope Goliath stomps on David's face several times and then moves forward with whatever he wants.

OMG GOLETA IS BECOMING OXNARD!!! LOL. Perhaps the most ridiculous overstatment of the year. I wonder when the last time these people have even been to this strip of Hollister? Believe me, this is an improvement.

Well, there is active silver iodide distribution during certain times of the year over the backcountry for cloud seeding so that could be an option as well.

One of those "no-brain" hunters here - I haven't used lead for years specifically for the reasons found by this study. Why would I want to eat lead and why would I want to harm the beautiful wilderness I get to experience many times a year? I agree completely with this legislation and I will gladly pay the extra $s for non-lead ammunition. Although, I do think it should be legal to use lead ammunition at shooting ranges.

I still think the hunters made a stupid choice, but they were probably justified in taking some kind of action (shooting the dog was over the line). That said, I am a hunter and a dog owner and from that perspective I can say that it is really difficult to hunt anywhere near Santa Barbara. I stay completely away from the lower SY area, but most of my hunts end up being long hikes with a gun. As far as the restrictions and access go, hikers have it pretty easy. The article was a good one. The forest could make it much easier on everyone involved to just make the signage more clear.

Thanks for the article Ray. Are there implications for hunters in this new management plan?

Wow! So much negatvity. I think it is great that they are restoring some wetlands. Only about 10% of California's costal wetlands remain so this seems like a great project to me. I hope I can volunteer once it is under way.
