How does this, "Way back in 1999, before Larry Wachowski became Lana, they were the darlings of film professors..." give more insight into the film than this, "Way back in 1999, the Wachowskis were the darlings of film professors..."?
It doesn't. It's used as a snide comment with implied blame for the downhill slide of their movies due to her transitioning to female.

Please explain how Lana Wachowski being a transgender woman is in any way relevant to the movie or has any value as part of the review.
