Hey, I "blame" who is affecting my life, and at this time of my life, with this economy and not many jobs at hand, people like me, an AMERICAN CITIZEN should get PRESIDENCE over those who are NOT CITIZENS!

That's all I'm saying! Why should *I* have to suffer, or go hungry because someone is here ILLEGALLY, and they're doing the job *I* need for less money, undercutting me around every corner?!

Why is that "racist"?! It isn't, in fact, but reality, instead.

There's 10 million of us unemployed right now in this country, and I'm one of them, and I'm not getting any "unemployment" either.

Hey, maybe if I go to Mexico, declare citizenship, and then sneak back over to America, maybe *THEN* I can get a job!

And I'm NOT-EVEN-KIDDING.

Great, consise, I like this opinion.

The two top contributors keeping marijuana "illegal" are:

1. Anheuser-Busch
2. R.J. Reynolods

You know why that is? Because they're afraid of losing millions, and that's because people like myself have quit smoking tobacco and stopped using alcohol products altogther, and have started smoking marijuana instead.

I have a legal marijuana prescription because of my ADD, ADHD, and OCD. I should've just said that I was a "writer."

Also, 98% of the time, people are being arrested for "possession," and not some other crime, like, "Battery," or "Domestic Violence," which is usually accompanied by the usage of an alcohol product.

I haven't been to jail in over 8 years, and the last time I was in jail it was for a D.U.I.. Marijuana has improved my psychological state of being, but it hasn't improved my living situation, because we're (MM patients') still being descriminated against. I have a "legal prescription" to possess and smoke marijuana, but can't work for a company who tests for marijuana? How is this right? It's a legal prescription! And unless the job is Federal in nature, this is descrimination.

For the idiot who asks why we are here right now? Well, for one, when you are "homeless," and it's November, you go where the weather is not so harsh. Believe me, I'd rather be up in Arcata right now, because people up there aren't as judgemental about folks who are down on their luck, and try to give them a "hand-up" not a "hand-out." The further south you go, though, the more attitude you have to deal with concerning this topic.

El_Informador, yeah, my guess is you have an uncle who has taken a job away from me here, and will continue to do so.

Oh, and there IS work here, just not for an American citizen, obviously.

This is simple, religion is about control, and they have control, right now.

Power does not release power free of its own will, so change has to come, at times, externally, through other means, which people have long sense forgotten about, or do not wish to partake, because they fear reprisals from those weilding and controlling the power therein.

In the United States of America there are *supposed* to be "separation powers" between the church and the state, "*supposed* to be," but this is not the reality, obviously.

Words can be powerful, but sometimes, the only thing that works is revolution.

Look to our (Humankind) history, people.

Real intelligent statement there. It's not much cheaper in Bakersfield or Lancaster either.

When you're down and out where these folks are, and as I am currently, it doesn't really matter where you stay, because you can't afford anything, anyway!

This is the United States of America, where we are allowed to live any place you damn well choose, and if that means we feel like living here, we'll sure as hell live here! We shouldn't be treated like "criminals" when we are not, all of us, anyway.

Besides, have you ever been to Bakersfield?! I'm "homeless" not stupid.

I think everyone has made salient points, on both sides, but as I stated, I am personally affected by this topic. As someone who is personally affected by this situation, I do not like what I am seeing. The police will harass me for trying to make a buck near the freeway ramp, stating I'm "on the ramp," when I am actually on a piece of concrete NEXT TO the ramp, but that's another topic for another time, and right down the street from where I was rousted, there is a place where some 200-300 illegal immigrants go to get work?! How does this happen?!

And how does the city of Santa Barbara get away with hiring them as well! Nobody has addressed this fact.

Then the police want to ask us, "Why aren't you working?" are you kidding me, are the police that stupid, or are they just being purposely obtuse?

Again, I'm not "anti-immigrant," but I *AM* anti-you taking food out of my mouth when you are not even a citizen of this country.

Oh, and one more thing, about how "white people took the land from Mexicans and Native Americans," this has been going on since man has been on the planet. Just as with slavery, white people weren't the first to enslave a race of people, and we weren't the first people to conquer nations and take them over.

See the film "Apocalypto," and the ending of that movie will put things into proper perspective, I believe.

Watch, see who will get the jobs to clean up the aftermath of this fire. Here's a clue, it won't be me, or anyone like me.

My only problem with this situation is they are all being lumped into the same category, as "drug using, prostitution having" individuals.

And to take their homes away from them is just going to push them on to the streets, where there's already too many of us.

Also, it shouldn't be "illegal" to sleep on one's own vehicle. Why is *that* "against the law"?

Fear breeds ignorance. Maybe if we address the problem with solution-based initiatives, instead of the "get out of our town!" mentality, maybe then we can take care of this problem.

As a "homeless person," someone who relies on the "labor/service industry" to survive, this topic affects me, directly. I'm a writer as well, just in case anyone at the Independent likes my style, and can help me out with work.

Construction foremen will not hire guys like me because I won't work for "minimum wage," but "illegal immigrants" will. I watch every-single-day as some of these folks work for the city of Santa Barbara, picking up garbage, or watering and sweeping the sidewalks, just to find out they have no English speaking skills when I ask one of them where something is located in Santa Barbara. How does one get a job, for the city of Santa Barbara, without grasping even a little bit of the English language? How does this happen? I'm assuming (I know, I shouldn't do this.) they can't write English as well, so how did they fill out an application?

This is not a criticism toward the immigrant worker, this is an incictment on the city's hiring practices. It's not just the city who's doing this; I don't want to make it seem this way, it's just one example I've observed since coming to Santa Barbara two weeks ago. It's all about cheaper labor. I'm tired hearing folks say,

"They're just here working the fields, where the 'average American' does not want to work."

myth. They're working in warehouses and construction sites as well. This is being underreported by people for political reasons, I believe.

Look, I'm not "anti-immigrant," because we are all immigrants (Minus 'Native Americans') in one form or another, but when our streets get flooded by the thousands, when they can pool their monies together by living multiples per household, just to send that money back to Mexico (In the headline story there's an instance where one of the guys talks about his amigos coming back to Mexico with a 'pocket full of cash.'), thus weakening our dollar in the process, is completely unacceptable. I'm all for "legal immigration," and I understand the "system" needs a major overhaul, but at what expense are we to be overly gracious? At mine and those like me, apparently.

Right now, the place I'm at in my life, I need these "service working jobs," but I'm being undercut by illegal immigrants around every-single-corner. Sure, it could turn out to be a great thing to push me back in to college; I still need to work, though.

What sort of chance does a "citizen" have of obtaining employment when the city is hiring "cheap labor"?

I don't have a simple answer to this problem, I just know it affects me adversely, and I do not like it.
