Past presidents of the Santa Barbara Women’s Political Committee are sponsoring their annual luncheon. This year’s featured speaker is the Hon. Betty Yee, California’s Controller. Controller Yee will address women’s advancement ‘From Equality to Equity: Seizing Opportunities from Economic Disruptions.’ This past mid-term election, over 100 female candidates won seats to the 116Th Congress, the most diverse in history. Many began with activism or political involvement at the local level. With a 30-year history of electing women to local, statewide, and Congressional leadership roles, the SBWPC was ahead of the curve. The Presidents Circle events bring outstanding political leaders to the community to address women’s issues from a feminist vantage point. Attorney Catherine Swysen, SBWPC past President (2016-2018), said that ‘this is a friend-raiser and networking event for women and men interested in learning more about women in politics. Controller Yees story will no doubt inspire attendees to get more involved with campaigns, seek appointments, or run for office to make a difference.
