A couple bits of information that I did not gather until after our print deadline:
Lance Shoemaker, President of the West Valley College Academic Senate, said of Gaskin, "We’re pretty devastated that she’s leaving. She’s been excellent to work with." He called her a "great collaborator and also a great leader."
Trustee Villegas told me via email, "Frankly, I just felt another candidate offered more of what, in my opinion, SBCC needed at this time."

My article says half the layoffs were were rescinded. The exact number is 33. Thirty-seven teachers are still waiting to find out if they will be given positions next school year.
