It does not matter whether you are a Democrat or Republican, voting for Obama or McCain, you should have compassion for all God’s creatures. I think the author is correct in stating that even though we are consumers of animals products we at least would like to think they are being humanely treated during their short lives. Proposition 2, the Prevention of Farm Animal Cruelty Act, is a step in the right direction. The European Union voted to ban battery hen cages across Europe starting in 2009. Despite being only the EU’s fifth largest egg producer after France, Germany, Spain and Italy, the UK has the highest number of free range hens. If it can be done in Europe, it can be done here as well. Vote YES on Proposition 2, which also addresses the inhumane treatment of other farm animals, such as cows and pigs.

In response to jessica_jones comment, I'm sorry that she had to experience such cruel behavior by family members and agree with her conclusion. I hope she can overcome this bad memory by becoming a positive role model for others on how to lovingly treat animals - and kids!
