CONGRATULATIONS, Amir!!
Our son was in his first ever Robotics class in 2006 and Amir's genius was readily apparent back then. I am so very happy that this dedicated, brilliant, "cool" teacher has been honored in such a way!

The world needs a whole lot more Amir's!!

I've pre-ordered The New Cool, can't wait to read it~!

Tony Evans was a gentle giant, the most distinguished person in his scientific field, the most prolific, the most honored, and the nicest guy you would ever want to meet! Tony launched and nurtured hundreds of careers as he shared his talents and enthusiasm for learning, always with a smile on his face and the most wonderful spirit of cooperation.

Tony treated the person cleaning his hotel room or scooping his ice cream with the same respect he afforded the President of the U.C. Board of Regents or a military general. The consummate charmer and gentleman who really lived the motto, BE KIND TO EVERYONE YOU MEET.

My life, and the life of my husband, has been greatly enriched by knowing Tony. He is gone much, much too soon and we will miss him deeply, and love him always.

Thanks for the info! My daughter and I contracted what we believe to be pertussis about ten years ago, though by the time our doctors thought that to be the case, we had both been on antibiotics and so the blood tests to confirm it were not done. Apparently when I was born in Canada some decades ago, babies were not immunized against pertussis. When my daughter was an infant she had a very bad reaction to her first DTPT shot and was not given the other pertussis shots...

This is a very difficult illness to cope with. The coughing is so very painful and unrelenting, I actually pulled several muscles in my rib cage and heard a loud popping sound as I damaged one of my ribs. Recovery took a few months and I have had asthma ever since.

I hope that all who think they MIGHT have pertussis take suitable precautions to help prevent the spread and that they get themselves to their doctor to try to prevent the disease from running its full course. I'm not sure that is possible...

As an aside, does no one proof the writing here? I had numerous grammatical and spelling errors pop out at me while reading this piece.

Great article, Starshine! I, too, am dismayed that Iowa is more progressive than California, and not a little surprised. Way to go, Iowa!

equus_posteriori - you make a lot of sense to me!
