What a huge waste of taxpayer dollars. The inability of our oppressive administration to respect the laws of the state is unforgivable. The war on drugs is a sham, any reasonable person knows this, and medical marijuana provides serious relief to countless numbers of ailing patients. Just because it isn't lining the pockets of the old crony network and their big-pharma buddies, the persecution continues.

It's nice to see The Independent covering an important issue for local surfers and recreational ocean users. With the recent spate of shark attacks in the waters of Mexico, public awareness and education are increasingly important measures for preventing human-shark encounters (in addition to new technology... Much of the illegal agricultural use of our National Forest lands are the work of Mexican cartels and their employees - sent across the border to tend for (and guard with their lives) a plot of land for 6 months.
Running across an illegal marijuana patch in the wild is a far more frightening proposition than encountering a bear or cougar. Neither of those species carry rifles.
While I love to rage *against* the "War on Drugs," I certainly believe that these plantations are harmful to our National Forests - fertilizers, runoff, and the danger posed to recreational users of this land, are all factors that need to be appreciated here.
Please, grow your cannabis on private property.

As usual, excellent fire coverage that's unavailable from any other local news outlet. Thanks!

"Whatever happened to a reasonable discussion of the issues?"
Maybe, Ray, a reasonable discussion went out the door when you published your one-sided, anti-mountain-biker propaganda on what is supposed to be an objective forum.
That "predictable response" obviously arose from your predictable misinformation campaign and personal agenda that you continue to push.

Looks like a nice hike, had no idea it existed. Very curious to check out the pine stands; that's one thing i really wish santa barbara's backcountry had more of, is that sierra feel.

Crazy mountain bikers... You don't have any right to multiple-use trails. Multiple-use means walking, or walking slow, or walking faster.
God forbid someone should impinge on Mr. Ford's views of what is and is not appropriate use of the local trails. Just because you wrote a book about the trails doesn't make you king of them, Raymond.

Sharks fish for people ... Why shouldn't people be able to fish for sharks? (With proper oversight, of course.)
