"Raquel Lopez, Executive Director of La Casa De La Raza said that institutionalized racism is the main contributor to the gap in Latino school success."

I think that the promotion of permanent victim status by groups like "casa de la raza" and "pueblo" contribute far more to the education gap.
Once you have professional activists whose job is to stir up discontent and la revolution the activists lose the motivation to help people and instead encourage blaming others as their only solution.

Better luck next time!
And if we cannot convict them of this crime I am sure there will be many more to follow.

Local activist groups are pressuring the mayor and city council to boycott Arizona and declare this city a sanctuary for illegal aliens. They are pressuring law enforcement to stop seizing the cars of unlicensed drivers.
What will they want next?
Call your representative and tell them how you feel.

This is really sad especially coming in the midst of this economic downturn.
I used to work in a machineshop on Gray avenue and really enjoyed the ambiance of the entire funk zone and think it is great to have a working space like that here.
The city needs to work with these people rather than trying to destroy them and we must remember what council members helped and who did not.

On End of an Era?

Back before March 14, 2007 anytime anyone in local law enforcement or the news media described a criminal as a gang member there was a pile of letters to the editor at the news press from chicano activists and "progressives" claiming that there are no gangs in Santa Barbara and anyone who says otherwise is just a racist.
I wonder where those folks are now.

We already have lots of gun laws, some of them make sense and some of them are just the result of grandstanding politicians wanting to look tough on crime.
Most of the gun and ammunition laws of the last twenty years only serve to criminalize otherwise law abiding citizens and to inflame the rhetoric of the far right and make the chicken littles of the state feel safer

With adult level freedom comes adult level responsibility,
last year the floatopiots showed they could not handle it and littered our beach and ocean with their junk.
If it was a local thing it might be OK but once you get it on facebook you get too many morons with no ties to the community showing up.
The level of childish entitlement that I see in pro floatopia postings does not impress me.
