Thank you for writing this article. It spotlights the lack of financial resources for delivery of mental health services. It is a point that the public (individuals) should take to their representatives in government... to increase the funding for needed mental health resources and services.
What the general public does not often realize is that despite the OVERWHELMING NEED for mental health services (i.e. mental health issues are responsible for the most days of missed work, 40+% of all doctor's appointments have mental health issues as a part of the presenting problem, and two antidepressants are in the top 10 medications prescribed) the REIMBURSEMENTS are LOW, compared to health visits involving procedures (i.e. immunizations, blood work, X-rays, IV's or suturing). However, there has been some PROGRESSION forward, as the co-pay for outpatient mental health services has recently been lowered from 50% of fee.
