For what it is worth, Nick wrote "anglo" and I changed it to "white."

On Uribe Bows Out

Posted on July 20 at 11:25 a.m.

Sheriff's Sgt. Gregg Weitzman confirmed that one of the older lifeguards called police because he remembered Carreno from an arrest in the 1990s. Carreno was not charged with touching children, Weitzman said, but of "annoying" and taking pictures of young girls. This story's headline and the description of his conviction have been changed to reflect that distinction. He is still in custody at this point, the judge having set bail at $20,000.

On Child Annoyer Arrested in Carpinteria

Email sent 5/6/09 from Susan Davidson, whose house is on Tunnel Road at the very top of Mission Canyon, above the Botanic Gardens:

Mike and Kevin,

It does not look good. The winds have come up and the fire is directly behind the house on Tunnel Road. Mike; could you get this message to Elizabeth at the Independent.

Where is the air support? There was a long pause of air support this afternoon and now the fire has flared up again.
Why has the eastern flank of the fire above Tunnel Road been left to smolder? Why not bring in everything possible and repeat the drops until it is out?
I know the firefighters are doing everything they can and I am thankful for their efforts, but during the Tea Fire I could count more than double the helicopters dropping water. Is it the budget?
We have about four hours of daylight left today with winds expected, please send in more air support.
Thank you

We are leaving SBMS as the smoke is just too thick. We are going to my friend, Margaret's house on Padaro Lane with the dogs.

Love,
Mom

Excellent point, Moonrunner! We have amended this story to reflect the fact that all of these events are merely alleged.

Correction: The article states that Ann Detrick, head of Alcohol, Drug, and Mental Health Services, has never returned a phone call from the Independent. In fact, after initial difficulty reaching her, Ann Detrick called me to answer questions about mental health service cuts last summer, and returned calls after that as well. Martha Sadler

On Executive Privileges

Dear DonJosedelaGuerra, take a look at the link to the agenda documents, just added it. The draft framework doesn't get as specific as how or whether De la Guerra Plaza would be modified. It does talk about building heights and forms.

David, it means to mean if the PlanSB Project were adopted, this alternative shows what ultimate buildout would look like.

On City Plan Steps into Limelight

Chris meagher was prepared to report but has apparently lost cell phone contact. Strong winds expected to continue till morning or more, according to KEYT's laconic report, but they have kabc helipcoptor pictures. they are coffee-klatching it at this point. Houses are burning, it appears. Guessing.

call 211 for questions on where or when to evacuate.
