I was Lucky to know Tony Brown in the early 1970's. We both worked as guides for the Hunt Club on Santa Cruz Island. I was there when he planted his first Cherimoyas. I remember him telling Willie Norlan and I about them at Willies little cabin on Casitas Pass. Tony provided Willie a place on his Property after Willie returned from Spain. Willie had lost both his parents sometime before. Tony knew his stuff. He taught me about the History of Carp and the Island. I learned about local plants, the Chumash, and tasted my first Pineapple Guava, Cherimoya , and Meyer lemon. We met up about 10 years ago at a Guides Day Reunion. Those were great times!! I wish Tony and all the Browns Good Health and a Happy Trails. RB

On Spokane and the Davenport

Ray, first of all Spokane is not one of " the oldest cities in the West" ! It was founded in 1871. I can think of scores of older cities including the one you live in!! Second your report on the city reads like a 4th grade book report . I lived in Spokane . Though the Davenport is a nice Hotel, your report failed to mention anything but golf and a nice place to eat. Lots more to see and do there pal. Next time do your homework,,, then start writing .

I hope the Chumash tribe builds ten more Casinos!!! One would be nice right on the coast. No one complains about ten thousand vineyards,,, why are grapes ok, but gamblers are not,,, they both clog the roads with tourists,, the Chumash will win!!! Yell and scream all you want,, SB county is lost!!!
