How sad that many of these comments are so cynical.

These trees; as "forestKepper " said; are well pruned and maintained . It is a horrific tragedy; in my opinion.....that these beautiful trees.....that provide a gorgeous and beautiful scene on driving along East Valley Road will be destroyed!!!; They seem safe. No brush around them. And; Birnam Wood (I am a member) is one big lawn. Golf courses are not fire hazards.

I am so hoping that we can all reach an aggreement that the Eucalyptus trees can stay. They are home to monarch butterflies; red-tail hawks......and owls. Those are very beneficial animals and insects.

"Olive trees " will not take the place of these towering masterpieces.

(and what a comment....just spray them and they won't fruit!" from Mr. Montgomery in the Montecito Journal!!) Yikes! Then they won't provide fruit for the birds and animals! ICK!!! What a philosophy!

Just look what has happened to "Contancia" The magnificent canopy of trees that led to the magical landscape of "Constancia" was cut down without permission...without ceremony. A magical garden was lost forever. Most of the trees on the whole property. Gone. Tragic.
Now it is for sale. Magic gone. Olive trees are lined up on that driveway. No. It doesn't look like the San Ysidro Ranch. It looks like an out-of-town dude "ruined paradise and put up a parking lot!"

Completely ruined a magical property.....didn't finish ....and now it is for sale for $20 million dollars. It is revolting. Totally revolting. Look at the listing in the papers.....and then look in the books on Montecito Gardens......any of them at the library! You will cry!
So , so so.......sad.

Will we continue to allow Montecito and Santa Barbara to be systematically ruined in this way?

I hope not! These trees are part of the history and feeling of Montecito. Please help us keep them!

Sorry, wait a second.....what is the "European country" that is doing well? Trader Joe's started in Pasadena,California. Not Europe!

Actually, South Pasadena! Towns started by mid-westerners at the turn of the century and a bit before!

Huh? What does Europe have to do with this?

We know "Trader Joe"! He is from Pasadena.....and his very first market was "Pronto" in South Pasadena.....less than a mile from our first house!

Joe Columbe and his darling wife; Alice!

What a wonderful thing he started!

Ahead of its time!!

Good grief! I am so happy that while I was scrolling down....I found "disposable"'s comment!

He/she/ is so correct!

Since I was 18; I have belonged to the "Friends of the Sea Otter"

One of our most magnificent marine mammals.

Sorry; the reason for the decline in the abalone population is.......guess what??>?

NOT the otters! OVERFISHING by the fishermen!

Thanks for the ability to voice the other side!

I have known this creep for 20 years. He crawled out of a drain. He has a wonderful mother who must have spoiled him.....and he is a sociopath. he even called us while in jail

this is a person who needs to remain incarcerated.
He has no conscience. He feels no guilt Not towards his child....not towards his former wife; and not towards his parents.

I plead the judge to keep this guy in jail for the rest of his life.

What a destructive , sick, depraved person he is. Only jail will protect others from his sociopathic behavior. He thinks everything he did was :fine"
HE is the most revolting person I have ever known.

Exactly. Suicide is a personal choice. A barrier will not prevent it.

I grew up in Pasadena. The most beautiful bridge was "suicide bridge"!

People still find a way to jump off of it!

A ridiculous waste of money to make a bridge ugly so people don't jump off it!

They will find another way to kill themselves if that is what they want to do.

Think I am insensitive? My dearly loved stepfather committed suicide, I found him in our garage with several cars running on my way to school. 8th grade.

there is no way to prevent a person who wants to end his or her life from doing that.

I grew up in Pasadena. "Suicide Bridge" is the most beautiful bridge.

they put all these things on there when they rebuilt this beautiful bridge ....(it is a gorgeous bridge that is a landmark)

People still find a way . Leave the bridge alone. If someone wants to kill himself or herself......he or she will find a way.

Pills; carbon monoxide. something. I disagree with the changing of the bridge.

I totally agree with Justine. The Grand Jury and the California government body in charge of non profits needs to get in to this; pronto. It was not one....but two loans. The first for 13 million. The second one paid off the first one; and was for 20 million. The fraudulent claims of the Director of the foundations ability to raise money with their "donors" and lists of 4500 people wanting to join their "tiered donor list" is shocking. And total fiction!!
This 15 to 20 million dollars is somewhere.....and it was not spent on Val Verde.
This is embezzlement and fraud. Graft. Tragic also. Many people donated to this foundation hoping to preserve the lovely place Val Verde is. The loan money has evaporated. The donations have evaporated. It is shocking.

The donors.......(I am one)... and the county, and the state have been defrauded. I demand an investigation.
the "Board" was responsible. The "Director" was responsible. These were a band of thieves.
They need to prove to the donors and to the County that they were , indeed a "non-profit" foundation. they will not be able to.
They have simply milked and stolen every dollar in the trust....and every dollar in donations.. All that money is lining the pockets of the directors....and the head of this foundation. It is a huge disgrace to the county.....and the State.

I hope there will be an investigation. And soon. This will tarnish all non-profits. It is shocking and disgusting. Your newspaper is the only one publicizing any of it.

Bravo and keep it up.
Not one peep from the "News Press:
; and not one peep from the Montecito Journal.
