Did anyone read the WHOLE article? Or just fixate on Wendy McCaw? There are much bigger - and more important - issues pending than whether or not she's qualified to instruct us about science.

That strength and guts of that young man should be an inspiration to people of any age. There's so much complacency and cynicism among some kids and adults who can take for granted the value and preciousness of life; and I suspect Mike senior had a lot to do with his son's courage. Where does SBLoc get their info? That's a pretty broad statement not supported by stats as far as I can see. You could say the EXACT same thing about the effects of alcohol and cigarettes, BTW - and I would broadly say the chances are much greater of societal burden in those cases.
