The headline seems off, if they are just buying carbon offset credits and non local ones they are not really reducing any impact here.

I wonder if there could have been a middle ground force them to donate to social service groups here - food banks/homeless shelters/etc a few hundred grand a year and gone with the state level emissions.

14noscams instead of cherry picking a Oakland report why not showcase Los Angeles, Oxnard, or San Diego where research shows they have been effective in reducing crime and gang membership. A simple google search of gang injunction California effective or not pulls up a lot of info...

Lois should express her displeasure by throwing down a gauntlet and introduce measures to take large swaths of land off taxpayer rolls in their districts. That would get local coverage in their market and also open up the discussion of their donations from the Chumash.

Loonpt, you are joking right? Armed foreign citizens working for a cartel in the national forest not a problem...the sentence is a joke.

It would be standard operating procedure for news agencies to have requested the deceaseds criminal history if any, and under CA law it's public information. If the Indy or another publication requested that then it would come out, not necessarily law enforcement trying to "smear" the deceased.

My bad Rob of course you are correct. The cartel growers on national forest land who started the La Brea fire were freedom fighters, the ones who chased the hikers in New Cuyama were stand up people. The guys in Humboldt who locked the 15 year old girl in a box from LA and raped her are of paragons of virtue.

Its all the fault of the government and the laws, not the people in the marijuana trade being sketchy characters. Its not like for $150 for a doctor recommendation I cant grow my own in this state, its the governments fault. If Yosemite burns; its not the growers fault they are the standard bearers of liberty, its the governments how could I be so stupid. Those 50,000 plus Mexicans who died can take comfort in knowing they died so Americans can exercise their god given right to get high and by dying struck a blow against government tyranny. Viva the brilliance of Rob Engenolf!!

Again I support legalization since we are essentially there anyways.

On Illegal Marijuana Grow Discovered on Private Land

I think it should be legalized, that said Rob - it wouldnt be the continued illegality at fault if it turns out that's what started the fire. It would be the dealer looking to make money in a illegal product. The only real blame if it proves true is with the person who started this.

I don't care if you are offended but your comment is the intellectual equivalent of someone saying a rape victim asked for it due to the way they dressed.

This is great news for the LA/OC County crowd who have moved here and want Santa Barbara to eventually become just like what they left behind.

Nicely written and informative article by CM, thanks for the backstory and knitting it together. I am looking forward to a followup when they release more information.

Ken

Look for Peter Sperling also, and probably other Apollo corporate names - Sperling son of U of Phoenix founder gave Das $25,000 in just one local race a few years back. I also see him with $3,900 ones recently.

If you want to really have fun check out how much money Apollo has been spending because DoJ and others have been looking at them closer due to the extraordinary high defaults on federal student loans, and their recruiting tactics. Hopefully this bill will be like a Phoenix and burn up before Das pushes it through. You have to wonder how Das with his "education credentials" has as his big donor a guy whose money comes from a "University" that has paid around 90 million dollars in fines from the government in the 12 years or so...
