John Siegel-Boettner has inspired hundreds of kids that went before and will continue to inspire. NOTHING about this is surprises. Everything John touches hints of genius and selflessness. Bravo to SBMS students for their participation.

UCSB — where drug abuse all but qualified as an official intramural sport
Really, Nick? Come on. Find me a college where drug abuse ISN'T the number one pass time of students. I just graduated from an Ivy League school where empty adderall capsules littered the floor of the library, yet I doubt it would warrant a mention as a 'party school'. This sentence degrades the academic work of thousands of students and faculty and plunges UCSB's progress back decades. And to squish the idea into a story about Attias with the slightest hint that somehow the outcome would have been different elsewhere is beyond reproach. Should Attias have sought refuge in a less drug addled campus like, oh I don't know, Virginia Tech? Shame on you, Nick for ruining a perfect commentary and dragging the campus down with you.

This article is pitifully limited in scope. Vom Steeg is one important spoke of a giant wheel of people who have dedicated their lives for three plus years to get the college cup to UCSB. This is disappointing reporting on the part of The Independent staff. Something exciting is happening in town so let's slap together a cover story about one aspect of that story and just pretend that the amazing recruiting staff, the immensely talented players, or that a small army of people at the UCSB Athletic Department like Diane O'Brian and Tom Hastings to name just two haven't dedicated their time to this. Once again the Indy fires towards the right target and completely misses the mark.

Great article - thanks for giving KCSB the recognition it deserves for the unique service it provides to this community.
One glaring oversight in the coverage is that, while the author manages to remember his own show in the KCSB Top 10 list, he inexcusably forgets to cover in any way the work of Dick Flacks. Prof. Flacks' show has been on the air for 40 years and blows doors on this top 10 list.
But thanks for giving KCSB its props.

i agree that it's completely sad that those are the winners every year but, really, this should be a signal to local business owners that they are SO deficient in SO many ways. my last visit to the french press yielded a tepid cup of weak coffee with a chilly reception and several scowls. every day i go in to starbucks i am greeted and served a delicious (replicable!! for god's sake) cup of joe. for some of us - that's all it takes. i'm not going to vote for a lousy place just because it's local. on the contrary, i'm going to CONTINUE voting for the chains and PRAY that it gets through to local business owners.

Who are these two DONKEYS? They are SOOoooOoOO lucky they've had a couple of good years getting rich by bending EVERY ORDINANCE in our city's law books and driving locals insane. This event is completely out of control.
Do these idiots REALLY think they're GENIUSES for being the first two people to think of having a massive kegger on the beach every day? Let me tell you, Pembertons, you ain't. But everyone else followed the rules and realized it CANNOT be done OR paid for in this town. Not legally. You're lucky you got away with ruining our environment (both environmentally and our ambiance) for these past few years.
Now get out of my town.
