I see the usual suspects are all at it again. I think they just wait for whatever cause will come their way to protest. Greed, the Economy, the War, George W. Bush! Hey wait a minute. The war and George W. Bush????? Where have all the protests gone for the war? Isn't the war still going on and Obama pledged to bring the troops home? No blood for oil and the rest of their chants! Where is the outrage? Oh, that's right, these same knuckleheads won't protest about that now, because their guy is in office, so it's Ok. Can you say HYPOCRITE!!!!!!!!

Would someone please tell me why the Sheriff thinks he needs to appease this activist group in the first place? Does the Sheriff make the laws for impounding cars of those who have no driver's license? No he doesn't. So quit barking up the wrong tree. The Sheriff enforces the laws and that is what we should all expect him to do, end of story. Quit dancing between the raindrops and just tell us that you intend to do your job and enforce laws to the best of your abilities without giving radical activist groups like PUEBLO any legitimacy in the first place.

If a developer tried to build housing in the same area they would be denied in a split second. The Chumash should not be able to do an end around just because of who they are. The land is agriculture land and should remain so. The entire landscape of what the tribe begged for initially has changed. It went from Self Reliance (remember that term) to Self Indulgence. Politicians need to take a page from Nancy Reagan. JUST SAY NO!

Ochoa will not take too kindly to the viciousness and callousness of this crime. Stand by to do major prison time Mills'. We may be lettting out 30,000 prisoners soon, but rest assured, you two won't be in the mix! Ochoa wrestles with decisions where defendants may be able to turn their lives around and become productive citizens again. He has a tough job, but he won't be losing sleep over this case. This will not be a close call for him, mark my words.

Twenty years ago I would have bet my life that I would never have trusted the Independent to give me fair and balanced reporting of local news. Luckily I didn't make that bet. The Independent has raised its credibility status significantly in recent years. I no longer subscribe to the News Press. The Santa Barbara News Press has taken the place of what the Independent used to be, which to me was nothing short of tabloid and sensational news reporting. Way to go Indy! And welcome to the ranks of credible journalism.

Dear OpenMind,

Keep it that way. No one has proven perjury yet, although if you listen to this scorned defendant, you would think that there is a rogue cop stopping citizens willy nilly and arresting them for no reason at all. Gee wiz, it seems to me that everyone this officer has stopped HAD been drinking alcohol or smoking marijuana, hardly a witch hunt. I think the witch hunt is with this scorned defendant who has an ax to grind because he got caught drinking and driving. And a once good newspaper with a very good reputation has now gone tabloid. I would have never thought in all my years living in the County of Santa Barbara that I would be getting my local news source from the Independent, but I do. Maybe that is because they hired many of the old guard from the NewsPress. The NewsPress is nothing but TMZ disguised as journalism. William Randolph Hearst might not even do what the NewsPress is doing which is giving a DEFENDANT the right to say what he damn well pleases without doing any independant checking on their own. PATHETIC! And that is why I am so damn glad that I do not subsribe to that paper any longer. Forget the Pulitzer Prize, the NewsPress will only qualify for the new award, THE PUTZ PRIZE!
