There are so many many untruths in the comments I don't even know where to start.1. Unlicensed drivers can, and most do, get car insurance2. AB 353 prohibits car impoundment for unlicensed driving only at checkpoints. This is because police departments throughout California were found to be conducting checkpoints in areas with high immigrant populations in order to increase revenue, as opposed to stopping drunk driving. The bill was passed to discourage this practice.3. The study which stares unlicensed drivers cause more collisions is correct. The data is based on unlicensed drivers, not " illegal alien" drivers. It includes people who have had their licenses suspended for DUI or wreckless driving as well as youth who have not yet been issued a license. Of course they found higher collision rates among that group. 4. If the person who killed DonR's son had temporary protected status, he had permission to be in the US and was fully documented. He was eligible for a driver's license.

We voted against a new jail and Sheriff Brown keeps pushing for it anyways. The county cannot afford the 17 million a year to operate a new jail. A better option would be to run the jail we have now better and to increase alternative sentencing and rehabilitation. Of course that would not allow the sheriff to have his name on a building.

Yes, and sword fights and beatings by cops are not part of our legal system. FYI.
On DA Dismisses DUI Case Against Tony Denunzio

Draxor, your last post is disturbing. It should be deleted. Genis is doing his job and doing it well. Wishing someone harm is unacceptable. You may not agree with the decisions of the jury, the judge, and the DA, but remember that Genis was not the one who made any of those decisions. I hope you can find peace, not just for you, but for the well-being of our society.

Something seems strange about all the men having shaved heads. Not one of them is from Santa Barbara. If police work is becoming such a competitive field they should be able to find local people who will be more invested in the community. It also would make more sense to hire people who are very familiar with the street names since they need to get to locations fast. Next time the sbpd should consider hiring locally.

Seems like a lot of money that could be put to better use. The first jury already made it's decision. So the DA doesn't like the jury's decision and decides she wants another trial? Weird.

I second the motion that Darryl should run for DA.
On Mistrial Declared in Tony Denunzio DUI Case

I don't know a single person in SB who doesn't think Beutel and Tudor, among other sbpd cops are crooked. I don't think a retrial will lead to a conviction. Total waste of money!

Aren't a couple of these motorcyle cops under investigation by the sbpd? I wonder if that has anything to do with the this lawsuit.
